Engineering services

From stability and other engineering calculations for floating structures to feasibility studies and basic design, we develop standards-based, workable solutions.

Floating marina pontoons and a floating house

Floating structures must be designed to operate safely under waves, wind, currents and changing loading conditions. That is why accurate engineering calculations, stability above all, are needed at every stage of the design.

Sıla Group applies advanced engineering to stability and other calculations for all types of floating structure. We also carry out feasibility studies and basic design for special floating structures such as factory ships, floating homes, floating marina systems and special-purpose buoys.

Our solutions are grounded in standards, applicable rules and general engineering principles. Our goal is not results that only work on paper, but rational solutions that can be built and used in practice.

Scope of service

  • Stability calculations for all floating structures
  • Hydrostatic and equilibrium calculations for different loading conditions
  • Structural and other engineering calculations
  • Project feasibility studies
  • Basic design of factory ships
  • Basic design of floating homes
  • Basic design of floating marina systems
  • Basic design of special-purpose buoys
  • Technical comparison of design alternatives
  • Compliance assessment against standards and applicable rules
  • Preparation of calculation and design reports

How it works

  1. Defining requirements

We clarify the structure's purpose, its operating environment and the rules it must comply with.

  2. Feasibility and concept

We assess technical viability and compare the design alternatives.

  3. Calculations and basic design

We carry out stability and other engineering calculations and develop the basic design.

  4. Reporting

We deliver the calculations, assumptions and results in clear, well-structured reports.

What you gain

The right decisions, early

Feasibility and basic design let you see whether a project is viable before committing to detailed design and investment.

Standards-based solutions

Calculations and designs are built on standards, applicable rules and general engineering principles.

Workable results

We aim for rational solutions that are not only correct in theory but can be delivered in practice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between basic design and detailed design?

Basic design sets the structure's main dimensions, general arrangement and key performance characteristics. Detailed design then adds the information needed for fabrication. For special floating structures, we work at the basic design stage.

Can you carry out calculations for an existing floating structure?

Yes. Stability and other calculations may need to be redone if, for example, the structure's use or loading conditions change. We review your existing drawings and data together with you.

What information do you need for a feasibility study?

The intended use of the structure, the planned location and environmental conditions, capacity expectations and any preliminary drawings are enough to get started. We identify any missing information together at the outset.

How are calculation and design results delivered?

We deliver them as reports setting out the assumptions, methods and results, and make sure they are clear to your project team and other stakeholders.
